  • Prepare a brief introduction. Write a summary of what you want people to know about you that can be delivered in less than 30 seconds.
  • Bring business cards. Do bring a plenty of business cards. Even if your job doesn’t provide business cards it’s a good idea to have a personal card ready with your name, phone number and email address. When appropriate, offer a business card, and ask the other person for one of his of hers.
  • Mingle. Don't spend the entire party talking to people you already know or people you want to talk with. By avoiding or excluding people, you might miss out on fun - or some unexpected networking connections.
  • Maintain your network. Cultivate ties even when you aren't job hunting. Remember, the majority of jobs go unpublished, so you may hear of an exciting opportunity.
  • Show interest in others. Career experts say the secret is to stop focusing on yourself and take an interest in the other person. Ask questions and get the contacts to talk about themselves and their business experience
